When you think about the word “Fear,” what’s the first thought that comes to mind? Is peering from the top of a tall building? A flashback from an episode of shark week? Perhaps it is a scary image from childhood? I am sure any of these would make your hair stand up on the back of your neck!
Did you know that there are really only 3 fears we are born with as protective mechanisms?
Fear of falling
Fear of loud noises
Fear of abandonment
Every other fear you have is all imagination. When you fear something you are actually believing a lie you tell yourself about a future event that has not even happened! Think about the last time you were afraid… Were you not creating a movie in your head of worst case scenario?
I ask myself two questions when I am afraid of something.
1. Is this true?
2. On a scale of 1-10, what is the chance that this will actually happen?
(Hmmm…maybe a 2?)
Your mind has to respond to your command. When you ask it questions it must switch from imagination into logic and reason. After you answer your own question, your logic will tell you if you are in real danger or if your imagination and emotion has got the best of you.
